Oscar zipped his small red backpack. Zip ! The kitchen felt warm and cozy. Clara, his mommy, packed his sweet strawberry snack with a gentle smile. "Today is going to be a wonderful day !" she said.
Outside the big school gate, it was time to say goodbye. A tight, heavy knot grew in Oscar's tummy. Clara knelt down and gently drew a bright heart on his hand. She whispered: "A little red heart, Mommy always finds me !" But what would it be like inside the big school?
Oscar stepped inside the classroom. Children were running, laughing, and shouting. Crash ! It was so loud. Oscar felt very small.
Can you point to Oscar's little red backpack on his hook in the hallway? Then, a giant block tower began to wobble...
A boy named Léo waved. He showed Oscar a big wooden block and smiled. "Do you want to build with me ?" Léo asked. Oscar stood frozen near the door. He wanted to play, but his feet would not move. Would he stay there forever?
The heavy knot in Oscar's tummy felt too big and too warm. He shook his head slowly. He walked away to the quiet reading corner and hugged his red backpack tight. He sat alone on a big green cushion. How could he make the knot go away?
A warm tear rolled down Oscar's cheek. Snif... His throat felt tight and his heart beat fast. Would Mommy really come back at the end of the day? He felt so lonely on his cushion, until his eyes fell on his hand...
Oscar wiped his wet face with his hand. Suddenly, he saw the little red heart. Mommy's promise came back to his mind. Her love was right there, warm and safe, painted on his skin. Could his mommy's heart really help him feel better?
Oscar pressed his hand flat against his chest, right over his heart. He felt brave. He whispered the secret words: "A little red heart, Mommy always finds me !"

Oscar ran back to the wooden blocks. "Let's build a giant castle !" he said. They piled the blocks higher and higher. Bam ! The tower fell, and they laughed together. School was actually very fun.
Ding ! The school bell finally rang. The classroom door opened wide. Oscar looked up and saw Clara standing there with her arms wide open. He ran as fast as his little legs could carry him !
Oscar snuggled deep into Clara's safe hug. He showed her his hand. The red heart was faded, but it was still there. "A little red heart, Mommy always finds me !" he whispered.

The big door swings open. Creak! Clara is standing there with her arms wide open.
Nina runs as fast as a little rabbit and hugs Clara's neck very tight. "You see? I always come back," Clara whispers in her ear.
Back home, Nina cuddles on the sofa with Clara. The red heart is a bit blurry now.
But her tummy is soft and happy. The drawing can fade, but Mommy's love always stays.
